What do you need to do right now that you know you’re not doing? Why is that? What are you afraid of? Sometimes the things we want to do the most is the one we keep putting off.
Francis Bacon once said, “There is no comparison between that which is lost by not succeeding and that which is lost by not trying.” At some point, you have to start doing it—the thing that you’ve always wanted to do. There’s nothing worse than not trying.
I know it’s scary. I’ve made some tough decisions in my life, too. I know exactly how it feels to take big risks. I left the UK and turned down lucrative partnership offers to go back to the UK. Not only that, I’ve started businesses, grown them, and sold them (even then people asked me why I was selling the businesses!).
When I moved into coaching doctors, people questioned me. They said, “How do you know that doctors will engage?” I may not give them the answers they wanted to hear back then but I knew those decisions had to be made. And yes, they were scary.
Of course, there were doubts along the way but what I’ve learned is that each of us needs to get out of our comfort zone, make the decision, and take deliberate actions to make those decisions progress.
If you’re reading this right now and you know deep inside you that there’s something you want to do or you’re meant to do but you’re putting it off—my only message to you is this: DO IT NOW. This is your only chance.
We only have one shot in this life. It’s very important that if you know what you need to do, then make a deliberate decision to do it and start taking some actions towards that goal.
What you’ll find on your journey is that the fears and worries in your mind is not as bad as you imagine it to be. In fact, you’ll find that reality is much kinder and more benign than those doubts and fears that haunt you.
So don’t wait, don’t put it off, start taking some action, and continue making progress towards what you want to achieve. Act now. There is no better time than today. You deserve the life you want and your job is to go and make it happen.
