Have you ever absolutely, positively loved where you work? You wake up in the morning, bounce out of bed excited at the thought of going to your workplace. Today, I’d like to talk about the importance and benefits of having a social work environment along with studies done about it.
Before I continue, let me just reintroduce myself for the benefit of those who haven’t met me before. I’m Dr. Sachin Patel. I help all driven and goal-oriented doctors dramatically reduce stress, optimize time and rapidly maximize income, so they can live the life they want.
As a business owner, I’m very focused on creating a social work environment. It has always been a major focus in all the businesses I’ve run. First of all, let’s talk about what a social work environment is. It’s about creating a place that’s fun to be in. It fosters relationships between those that work there by encouraging them to be friendly and having shared experiences at work and outside of it.
Second, there are researches showing that a social work environment has a positive effect on employees and companies. One study is from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and it showed a significant increase in both productivity and in engagement when a social work environment was promoted.
Now, how do you go about doing it? One of the things revealed in the study is synchronized lunch breaks. This led to a measurable increase in the positive impression felt by the people due to the sociability of the work environment. It also led to a quantifiable increase in productivity and engagement.
Some examples of things that I like doing in my company are mainly fun stuff like escape rooms and most recently, Amazing Race around Melbourne. One time we contacted Tesla and asked them to open up their showroom for our team of doctors and I took 20 people there. We had cocktails and we did test drives in some pretty cool cars.
These are all examples of shared experiences that people can enjoy together where they can contribute to the social environment of the work place. We spend a lot of our life at work so it’s really important that we have a fun, enjoyable, and fulfilling time as well.
Not only that, it’s also the relationships and connections with those around you that’s really important. And that reinforces the benefits of the social work environment. Think about the simple tips I’ve shared and try them in your work place today.
Thanks for dropping by and see you in my next blog!
